Health Watch:
Proactive Resources for
H1N1 Preparedness in NJ

In an effort to provide school administrators with current information and tools to
address the H1N1 pandemic, the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association has created this section to be your definitive source on the H1N1 virus as the school year begins.

These resources will keep you informed about the latest H1N1 developments, and allow you to systematically respond to outbreaks of flu cases in your school and respective district.

Highlighted resources include a link to the federal government’s website, www.flu.gov, which provides guidelines about a range of options for responding to H1N1 in schools. You can also directly access the federal government’s communication toolkit for K-12 schools, which includes questions and answers, fact sheets, and template letters to help you communicate with employees, students, and families about the flu. In addition, a link to a School Dismissal Monitoring form created by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Education allows you to report on H1N1-related dismissals in your school or school district.

Be prepared! According to a new report released by a U.S. presidential advisory group, the virus may infect up to half of the U.S. population this fall and winter. The New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association are partnering with Johnson & Johnson to offer two FREE N1H1 Preparedness Training Sessions during the month of September. The two sessions (10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 2 p.m.-4 p.m.) will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the FEA Conference Center. Call 609-860-1200 to register now.
